Written by Margaret Cobb and Bruce Channel, “Hey! Baby” was released in December 1961 by Bruce Channel and reached No.1 on the U.S Hot 100 on March 10, 1962. The song was a worldwide hit, it features a prominent riff from well-known harmonica player Delbert McClinton, and influenced John Lennon to compose the harmonica parts of The Beatles debut single “Love Me Do”. While touring the UK in 1962 with The Beatles, McClinton met John Lennon and gave him some harmonica tips. Lennon put the lessons to use right away on “Love Me Do” and later “Please Please Me”. “Hey! Baby” was Channel’s biggest hit, he would never repeat the same formula of success but the song remains popular to this day and a staple on Classic Rock stations.
