By 1979 Pink Floyd’s Psychedelic and experimental days seemed to have been long gone, with the release of the double album “The Wall”, which was more approachable than some of their early albums, they reached a new generation of fans and developed a new sound that earned them their only No.1 in the U.S with the lead single from the album “Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)”. The song was released as a single on November 23rd 1979 and became an instant worldwide success. It reached No.1 at the U.S Hot 100 on March 23, 1980. Despite their popularity and being acclaimed as one of the most important and best selling bands in Rock, the single was their first chart hit since the Psychedelic “See Emily Play” in 1967. In the album version of The Wall, “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” segues from “The Happiest Days of Our Lives”. Prior to the 1982 film, the first video for the track, directed by album/concert/film art designer Gerald Scarfe, depicted students running in a playground (Kings Square Gardens, Islington) and the teacher puppet from The Wall concerts was used. The video also mixed in some animated scenes later used in “The Trial” and “Waiting for the Worms”. Once the film was completed, the actual scenes of “The Happiest Days of Our Lives” and “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” were combined into a new video, which now represents the music video for “Another Brick in the Wall”.
