Damon Albarn was born on March 23, 1968, in London, England. As the lead singer of Brit Pop band Blur, Damon had a string of hits including “Girls & Boys”, “Parklife”, “Country House”, “The Universal”, “Charmless Man”, “Stereotypes”, “Song 2” and “Beetlebum” among many others. He also scored hits with his side project Gorillaz such as “Feel Good Inc.”.Damon formed Blur with Graham Coxon during the late 1980’s and the band released their debut album “Leisure” in 1991, featuring their early indie hit “There’s No Other Way”. The band rises to fame with their album “Modern Life Is Rubbish” in 1993 but it was with the 1994 “Parklife” that they achieved international success. The album included the smash hit “Girls & Boys” that remains one of Blur’s most popular songs and also the title track “Parklife”. In 1995 they released another hit album “The Great Escape” that produced a string of hit singles for the band including “Stereotypes”, “Charmless Man”, “The Universal” and the No.1 hit “Country House”. All the three albums released between 1993 and 1995 received critical acclaim while Blur gained mass popularity in the UK, aided by a Brit Pop rivalry with Oasis. Subsequent albums such as “Blur” (1997) that featured two more hits for the band “Song 2” and “Beetlebum”, “13” (1999), Think Tank (2003) and “The Magic Whip” (2015) contained influences from lo-fi, electronic and hip-hop music. Along with Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett, Albarn formed the “virtual band” Gorillaz in 1998. Drawing influences from alternative rock, trip hop,[1] hip hop, electronica, dub, reggae and pop music. Gorillaz band released their self-titled debut album in 2001 to worldwide success. Although Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, the albums feature collaborations from a wide range of artists. Gorillaz are cited by the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Most Successful Virtual Band”.Damon remains one of the most contemporary successful singers and musicians, he leads a very active career that includes several side projects, despite the fact that many people still only associates him to Blur. He is also a philanthropist and has put together several projects and albums with other artists in which all of the money earned is given to charity and causes such as Oxfam (Oxford Committee for Famine Relief). Damon turns 56 today.
