Legendary producer Jimmy Miller was born on this day in 1942
Jimmy Miller was born on March 23, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York City. Miller was one of the most respected producers in Rock music and he was responsible for producing a string of hit albums for The Rolling Stones starting with “Beggars Banquet” (1968), “Let It Bleed” (1969), “Sticky Fingers” (1971), “Exile On Main Street” (1972) and “Goats Head Soup” (1973). A drummer himself, Miller was known for the distinctive drum sound that characterized his productions, especially his work with the Rolling Stones, on whose recordings he occasionally played percussion parts such as the famous opening cowbell on “Honky Tonk Women” and the full drum kit on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Happy,” “Tumbling Dice” and “Shine a Light.” Jimmy Miller is referenced on The Rolling Stones song lyrics of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” as “My Friend Mr. Jimmy”. Other landmark albums produced by Miller include supergroup Blind Faith 1969 album “Blind Faith”, Motörhead’s “Overkill” and “Bomber” both from 1979, Primal Scream “Screamadelica from 1991, Traffic’s 1967 “Mr. Fantasy”, 1968 “Traffic” and 1969 “Last Exit”, among many others. Jimmy Miller passed away on October 22, 1994, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 52, from liver failure.
