Actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty turns 87 today
Actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty was born on March 30, 1937, in Richmond, Virginia. Beatty made his debut as a tortured teenager opposite Natalie Wood in “Splendor in the Grass” (1961). His next big role was in “Bonnie and Clyde” (1967), which he also produced. The film became a colossal hit and a milestone in cinema history. Beatty was nominated for four Oscars for “Heaven Can Wait” and win one for directing “Reds,” in which he also starred. Beatty has received great acclaim for many of his works, from the 1961 social drama “Splendor in the Grass” to the 1998 political satire “Bulworth.” During his career, he’s created a lasting legacy for his many dalliances with his leading ladies and other high-profile women before settling down with actress Annette Bening. Beatty was engaged to actress Joan Collins, but due to his philandering, the couple split. He later had long-term relationships with actresses Julie Christie and Diane Keaton. Top stars, such as singer Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, and Madonna, also succumbed to his boyish charms. Carly Simon confirmed in November 2015 that she wrote a verse in her hit song “You’re So Vain” about him. In 2004, he received the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., and the Milestone Award from the Producers Guild of America. Beatty received the British Academy Fellowship from BAFTA, and in 2011, he was awarded the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award.
