Celebrate Eric Clapton’s 79th Birthday with his Top 10 Songs

The legendary Eric Clapton was born on March 30, 1945, in Ripley, Surrey, England. The man whose name was sprayed in graffiti all over London during the late 1960’s as “Clapton Is God”, it’s one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He has played and formed several legendary bands since the beginning of his career during the early 1960’s. Clapton first became famous as the guitarist for The Yardbirds, before Jimmy Page joined in as a replacement recommended by Clapton himself. He then joined briefly John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers but shortly after formed the power trio Cream who enjoyed huge success during the Psychedelic Rock era in the late 1960’s producing some of Clapton’s most famous songs and hits as musician and composer. After Cream disbanded, Clapton formed Blind Faith, in between, he became good friends with Jimi Hendrix with whom he jammed regularly, (allegedly, story goes that when Clapton first saw Hendrix playing live he became so nervous that had to do a cigarette break) he also became part of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band, played the legendary solo guitar on The Beatles “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and even was thought as to be recruited as a full-time member of The Beatles and played guitar for the one time 1968 supergroup The Dirty Mac consisting on members John Lennon, Keith Richards, and Mitch Mitchell. In 1970 Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos with whom he made one of his most unforgettable songs and top Rock classic, “Layla”. Clapton had a firm friendship with George Harrison, and both guitarists collaborated on each other’s albums, sometimes uncredited. We celebrate Eric Clapton’s 79th Birthday by looking back at some of his best songs, solo or with the several bands he had been in.
