Snap! peaks to No.1 with “The Power” in 1990
Released in 1990, “The Power” by German House and Techno band Snap!earned the duo international success. It reached No.1 on the UK singles charts on March 31, 1990, but also topped the charts worldwide, making to No.2 on the US Hot 100, only stopped to reach No.1 by Mariah Carey’s “Vision Of Love”. This Techno/Hip-Hop classic was the first of a string of hits Snap! would release during the early 1990’s, “The Power” also is strongly present in Pop Culture imagery, having been featured in several movies, shows and advertisements throughout the years; the song was written by Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti (under the pseudonyms Benito Benites and John “Virgo” Garrett III) and contains samples from “Let the Words Flow” by Chill Rob G, “Love’s Gonna Get You” by Jocelyn Brown, and “King Of The Beats” by Mantronix. Snap! hits include “Ooops Up”, “Cult of Snap” and “Mary Had a Little Boy” all from their 1990 debut album “World Power”, and then in 1992 with “Rhythm is a Dancer”.
