The Beatles peak to No.1 with “Let It Be” on the Hot 100 in 1970
Released on the Apple label in March 1970 as a single, “Let It Be” was one of The Beatles final releases as a band, it had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning its chart run at number 6. and peaking to No.1 on April 7, 1970. Included on their final studio album “Let It Be” and mainly a McCartney song, the single version is different from the LP. While the single was produced by George Martin, the LP one was produced by Phil Spector, a collaboration that didn’t went well for the band. Bill Preston, one of the few people that are called a “5th Beatle”, played the famous organ part in the song. “Let It Be” was never performed live to an audience by the band, as most of the later Beatles releases. “Let It Be” single was backed by “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)”.
