In 1967 Frank Sinatra and daughter Nancy Sinatra release their famous No.1 hit duet “Somethin’ Stupid”
Nancy Sinatra has said she thinks it’s “very sweet” that some people refer to “Somethin’ Stupid” as the “Incest Song”. It was perhaps not the most appropriate subject to be sung in a duet between father and daughter, but it became one of the most popular songs of all time when it was released in 1967 by Frank Sinatra and daughter Nancy Sinatra. Written by C. Carson Parks, “Somethin’ Stupid” was originally recorded in 1966 by Parks and his wife Gaile Foote, as Carson and Gaile, but it wasn’t until Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra released their own version that the song became popular. Frank had played earlier in 1967 Parks’ recording to his daughter’s producer, Lee Hazlewood, who recalled “He asked me, ‘Do you like it?’ and I said, ‘I love it, and if you don’t sing it with Nancy, I will.’ In March 1967 it was released as a single backed with “I Will Wait for You” and shortly after it peaked to No.1 on the U.S Hot 100 and also on the U.K singles charts on April 13. It was a worldwide smash hit, with it’s approachable Pop beat. The song was also released on Frank Sinatra’s album “The World We Knew” and has since been covered extensively. In 2001, Robbie Williams and actress Nicole Kidman covered it successfully, reaching number one on the UK singles charts. “Somethin’ Stupid” was Frank’s second gold single as certified by the RIAA and Nancy’s third.
