The 1980’s British bombshell Samantha Fox turns 58

During the 1980’s, Samantha Fox was extremely popular and successful in Europe and other countries worldwide, including the U.S for a short period of time. At the peak of her popularity, Fox dated KISS’s Paul Stanley, be-friended Freddie Mercury and Jon Bon Jovi and also became Lemmy Kilmister’s object of desire. Samantha Karen Fox was born in London, England on April 15, 1966 and she first became popular in her home country as a topless model on Page 3 of British tabloid newspaper The Sun. During this time, Fox became the most popular pin-up girl of her era, as well as one of the most photographed British women of the 1980’s. In 1986, Fox retired from Page 3 modelling, at the age of 20, and transitioned into a career in pop music, scoring her first hit “Touch Me (I Want Your Body)” in the same year. Between 1986 and 1989 she had a string of hit singles (specially in Europe) including “Touch Me (I Want Your Body)” (peaking to No. 1 in several countries and No.4 on the US singles charts), “Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)”, “Hold On Tight”, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now”, “I Surrender (To the Spirit of the Night)” and “Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)” (her best chart position in the U.S, No.3). During the 1990’s, her popularity decreased, despite continuing to release new songs, Fox began to be viewed as a “relish” from the 1980’s. Rumors regarding Fox’s sexual orientation began to surface in 1999 when she judged a lesbian beauty pageant. At the time, Fox was living with Cris Bonacci, the Australian former lead guitarist for the rock band Girlschool. In 2003, Fox made a statement about her personal life: “I have slept with other women but I’ve not been in love before Myra Stratton. People say I’m gay…. I don’t know what I am. All I know is that I’m in love with Myra. I love her completely and want to spend the rest of my life with her.” In 2009, she announced her plans to form a civil partnership with Stratton, who was also her manager. In 2015, sadly Myra Stratton died of cancer at age 60. Samantha Fox remains active in music, releasing occasionally new songs and performing live. Today she turns 58.
