Gerry Rafferty was born 77 years ago today
Gerald Rafferty, known as Gerry Rafferty, was born on April 16, 1947, in Scotland. Rafferty became popular during the 1970’s after he formed the Rock band Stealers Wheel, with whom he had the big hit “Stuck In The Middle With You” in 1972. A 1975 article featured on the Sounds music newspaper, described the song as “a sort of cross between white label Beatles and punk Dylan yet with a unique Celtic flavor that has marked all their work”. Three years after the break-up of the Stealers Wheel, Rafferty recorded his second solo album, “City to City”, released in 1978. The album, it’s considered Rafferty’s most successful solo work and featured the smash hit “Baker Street”. Gerry Rafferty died of liver failure at the home of his daughter Martha in Stroud, Gloucestershire, on 4 January 2011 at age 63.
