Michael Jackson peaks to No.1 with “Beat It” in 1983

Written by Michael Jackson, “Beat It” remains one of the singer’s most popular songs to this day. Released as a single on February 14, 1983 and included on the 1982 album “Thriller”, the song features a guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen, somehow a Hard Rock collaboration tradition that Jackson would follow on his next albums, with Steve Stevens on the album “Bad” and Slash on the album “Dangerous”. “Beat It” was the third single to be released from “Thriller”, following “The Girl Is Mine” and “Billie Jean” and received the 1984 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, as well as two American Music Awards. The song reached No.1 on the US Hot 100 on April 30, 1982, and also peaked to the top spot in several countries worldwide. The now iconic music video which featured Jackson bringing two gangs together through the power of music and dance was one on heavy rotation during the early years of MTV and it was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame.
