Written by singer Nick Van Eede, “(I Just) Died in Your Arms” by British band Cutting Crew, remains one of the 1980’s biggest classics. It was originally released in the U.K in 1986 and later in January 1987 in the U.S. The song charted worldwide and peaked to No.1 on the US Hot 100 on May 2, 1987. Here are some interesting details about this popular power ballad by Cutting Crew: The actual words “I just died in your arms tonight” originally came to Van Eede while he was having sex with his girlfriend, the French phrase la petite mort, or “the little death”, is a metaphor for orgasm. After writing down his version of the phrase, he later used it as the opening line of the song as well as using it as the chorus. Despite Cutting Crew being considered a one hit wonder band, they did indeed score another hit with the song “I’ve Been in Love Before”, the follow up to “(I Just) Died in Your Arms”.
