The Everly Brothers were one of the earliest Rock acts to release a string of hit singles worldwide. During the boom of Rock N’Roll in the late 1950’s, the duo scored major hits in the U.S and also other parts of the world with songs such as “Bye Bye Love” and “Wake Up Little Susie”. On April 1958, they released what still remains known as their signature song, “All I Have To Do Is Dream”, written by the husband and wife songwriting team Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. Backed with Roy Orbison’s composition “Claudette”, the single was an instant success, peaking to the top of the U.S singles charts on May 12, 1958, shortly after it’s release. The Everly Brothers recorded the song live in the studio in just two takes, featuring famous guitarist Chet Atkins on guitar. Though the brothers were already a pretty much established act by then, the success of the song solidified their status as one of the most influential Rock groups ever, with bands such as The Beatles stating the influence The Everly Brothers had on their early songs. Another curious fact regarding the release of “All I Have To Do Is Dream” has to do with the already mentioned B-Side, “Claudette”, a song written by Roy Orbison, named after his first wife. Orbison, who later recorded his own version of the song, terminated his contract with the legendary Sun Records label due to the success of the single, affiliating himself with the Everly’s publisher Acuff-Rose Music, starting his own string of hit singles too.
