Former Iron Maiden’s frontman Paul Di´Anno turns 66 today

Paul Di´Anno, born on May 17, 1958, in Chingford, London, emerged as a seminal figure in the realm of heavy metal as the frontman for Iron Maiden with his distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence. Di’Anno’s musical career began in the gritty streets of East London, where he cut his teeth in various bands before landing the gig that would change his life forever. In 1978, he became the frontman for Iron Maiden, a then-fledgling band on the brink of greatness.
With Di’Anno at the helm, Iron Maiden rose to prominence in the burgeoning New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. His raw vocal delivery and rebellious punk attitude and energy injected a sense of urgency and authenticity into the band’s early recordings, including their self-titled debut album and its follow-up, “Killers.”
During his tenure with Iron Maiden, Di’Anno’s electrifying performances and songwriting contributions helped propel the band to international acclaim. Hits like “Running Free” and “Wrathchild” solidified Iron Maiden’s reputation as one of the most formidable forces in heavy metal.

In the years following his exit from Iron Maiden, Di’Anno embarked on a solo career, releasing albums that showcased his dynamic vocal range and songwriting prowess. He also collaborated with various musicians and bands. His two albums with Iron Maiden are among the most influential ones the band released. Though his time with Iron Maiden was relatively brief, his impact on the band’s early sound and success is undeniable.
In recent years Paul Di’Anno has suffered from several health problems which led him to pause at times his ongoing career; his old bandmates have helped him through his financial struggles in order for him to gain back his health. Today he celebrates 66.
