He initially stepped in as a temporary replacement for original bassist Pete Quaife in 1966. However, in 1969, when Quaife departed the band permanently, Dalton was officially named the bassist. His tenure with The Kinks coincided with some of their most influential work.

Dalton’s bass playing is particularly memorable on tracks like “Victoria” and the globally renowned hit “Lola,” which showcased his rhythmic proficiency and deep understanding of the band’s distinctive sound.
After leaving The Kinks in 1976, Dalton continued to pursue music. He played with various bands and engaged in numerous musical projects, often reconnecting with his roots in the rock genre.
