Steven Patrick Morrissey was born on May 22, 1959, in Davyhulme, Lancashire, England. The controversial and talented former Smiths lead singer has been one of the most influential vocalists over the last 35 years. A seminal figure in the emergence of indie rock and Britpop, he’s also acclaimed as one of the greatest lyricists in British history, his lyrics have become the subject of academic study. With The Smiths, he defined the British Alternative Rock scene of the 1980’s with songs that remain timeless, but he has been leading a very successful and influential solo career of his own for over 30 years now.
