Celebrate the legendary Bob Dylan 83rd anniversary with his Top 20 songs

Robert Allen Zimmerman, known to the world as Bob Dylan, was born on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, U.S. One of the most important and respected musicians, songwriters and poets of all time, became known as the “voice of a generation” during the 1960’s with songs such as “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They Are a-Changin'” that became anthems for the Civil Rights Movement and anti-war movement. In 1965, he controversially abandoned his early fan-base in the American folk music revival, when he added the electric guitar and instruments to his songs, recording the 6 minutes long seminal and influential song “Like A Rolling Stone”. At the time, many of his original fans saw this as a betrayal to Folk music, but Dylan never thought twice on expanding his horizons as a songwriter, and that, was a necessary part of his evolution as an artist. Bob Dylan also introduced the poetry concept to Rock music, and several of his songs were covered during the 1960’s by other influential artists and bands such as The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, and Van Morrison among others. Hendrix named Bob Dylan as his major influence in music, and that Dylan was the catalyst for him to also become a singer, and he was also the catalyst for The Beatles to evolve musically. The band wrote and recorded the songs for their groundbreaking album “Rubber Soul”, largely influenced by Dylan. Bob Dylan has sold more than 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and among his amazing achievements are eleven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award. Dylan has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also was awarded and gave several honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama, and, in 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. Today, the celebrated Bob Dylan turns 83. We’ve put together what we consider to be his Top 20 songs by order of influence and popularity.
