The prominent American musician and drummer Sean Kinney was born on May 27, 1966, in Renton, Washington. Known for his powerful drumming and distinctive style, Kinney has played a significant role in shaping the sound of the iconic rock band Alice in Chains.
Kinney’s musical career began at a young age, by the time he was nine, he was already playing the drums. His passion for music led him to join several local bands during his teenage years, where he developed his skills and unique drumming style.
In 1987, Kinney co-founded Alice in Chains with guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Starr, and vocalist Layne Staley. The band quickly gained a following in the Seattle music scene, which was burgeoning with the rise of grunge. Their debut album, “Facelift” (1990), featured Kinney’s dynamic drumming and helped catapult the band to national fame.

They were joined by new vocalist William DuVall, and the band released “Black Gives Way to Blue” (2009), marking a successful comeback. Other successful albums with DuVall are The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (2013) and Rainier Fog (2018).
