The German Supermodel and Media Mogul Heidi Klum celebrates 51 today

Heidi Klum was born on June 1, 1973, in Bergisch Gladbach, a small city near Cologne, Germany. Her father, Günther Klum, was a cosmetics company executive, and her mother, Erna, was a hairdresser. Klum’s early life in Germany was marked by an interest in fashion and modeling, which would later become her career.
Klum’s breakthrough came in 1992 when she won a national modeling contest called “Model 92,” beating 25,000 contestants. This victory earned her a contract with Metropolitan Models New York, launching her international modeling career. She moved to the United States to pursue modeling full-time and quickly rose to prominence.
Klum’s career soared in 1998 when she appeared on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which brought her widespread recognition. That same year, she became a Victoria’s Secret Angel, a role she maintained until 2010. Her work with Victoria’s Secret and her appearances in prominent fashion magazines solidified her status as a supermodel.
Beyond modeling, Klum has successfully transitioned into television and business. In 2004, she became the host and executive producer of the reality television show “Project Runway.” The show was a massive hit, earning Klum an Emmy Award and establishing her as a key figure in the fashion and entertainment industry. She also hosted and judged “Germany’s Next Topmodel,” further expanding her influence.
Klum has leveraged her fame to build a brand empire, including fashion lines, a jewelry collection, fragrances, and a lingerie line. Her entrepreneurial ventures have made her one of the wealthiest and most influential figures in the fashion world.
Klum continues to be active in both modeling and television. In recent years, she has co-hosted “America’s Got Talent” and launched new business projects. In 2020, she reunited with Tim Gunn for the Amazon Prime series “Making the Cut,” which searches for the next big name in fashion design.
Heidi Klum’s personal life has garnered significant media attention. She has been married three times: first to stylist Ric Pipino (1997-2002), then to British singer Seal (2005-2014), with whom she has four children: Leni, Henry, Johan, and Lou. In 2019, she married musician Tom Kaulitz. Klum is also known for her philanthropic work, supporting children’s hospitals and HIV/AIDS research. Recently in 2024 Heidi Klum released a cover of the song “Sunglasses At Night” produced by Tiësto.
