Born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio on June 7, 1917, the “King of Cool” Dean Martin who was a member of the famous Las Vegas “Rat Pack” that included also Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., became successful not only as an actor but also as a comedian and a singer, with Jerry Lewis he formed the popular comedy duo “Martin and Lewis”, that endured from the 1940’s till the mid 1950’s, and scored a big hit with the 1953 song “That’s Amore” included on the soundtrack of the movie “The Caddy” where Dean played the lead role. Other music hits included the 1956 UK & US No.1 single “Memories Are Made Of This” and “Everybody Loves Somebody” During the 1960’s he started a very successful career as TV host on “The Dean Martin Show” that ran from 1965 to 1974 and “The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast” that ran from 1974 to 1985 His movie career included roles in film classics such as “The Young Lions” 1958, “Rio Bravo” 1959, the original 1960 “Ocean’s 11”, “Airport” 1970 and “Kiss Me, Stupid” 1964. Dean Martin’s last film role was in the 1984 movie “Cannonball Run II”, and on TV in the 1985 series “Half Nelson”. Dean Martin passed away age acute respiratory failure resulting from emphysema at his Beverly Hills home on Christmas Day, 1995 at the age of 78 and the lights of the Las Vegas Strip were dimmed in his honor.
