With a career spanning over two decades, Natalie Portman, born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel, has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most respected and talented performers.
Portman was born to an Israeli father, Avner Hershlag, a fertility specialist, and an American mother, Shelley Stevens, an artist. The family moved to the United States when she was three years old, eventually settling in Long Island, New York. Portman showed an early interest in performing arts and began studying ballet and modern dance.
Her acting career began at the age of 12 when she was cast in the critically acclaimed film “Léon: The Professional” (1994), directed by Luc Besson. Portman played the role of Mathilda, a young girl who forms an unusual relationship with a hitman. Her performance garnered significant praise and set the stage for her future success.
Following her breakout role, Portman continued to build her career with roles in films such as “Heat” (1995), “Beautiful Girls” (1996), and “Mars Attacks!” (1996). She married French dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied in 2012 and divorced in 2024. The couple met on the set of “Black Swan,” where Millepied was the choreographer. They have two children, a son named Aleph (born 2011) and a daughter named Amalia (born 2017).
