Frances Louise McDormand was born on June 23, 1957, in Gibson City, Illinois. Adopted at a young age by a Canadian couple, Noreen and Vernon McDormand, she was raised in a succession of small towns due to her father’s work as a pastor. Her work in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017) brought her a second Academy Award for Best Actress, with her portrayal of a grieving mother seeking justice resonating deeply with audiences and critics alike.
McDormand’s career continued to flourish in the 2010s and beyond. She earned her third Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “Nomadland” (2020), directed by Chloé Zhao. The film, which also won the Oscar for Best Picture, features McDormand as a modern-day nomad traveling through the American West.
