Today, you can broadcast a live event from any place in the world by simply using your cell phone, but there was a time, where it wasn’t as simple, and demanded thousands of people to put up together a live TV event to be broadcast around the globe. The first time ever an event was broadcast live around the globe using the satellite technology was on June 25, 1967. Conceived by BBC producer Aubrey Singer “Our World” was the first live, international, satellite television production. It took ten months to bring everything together and ten thousand technicians, producers and interpreters. Fourteen countries participated in the production, which was transmitted to 24 countries, with an estimated audience of between 400 and 700 million people, the biggest audience ever for a TV show at the time. Each country had its own announcers, due to language issues, and interpreters voiced over the original sound when not in a country’s native language. Though several creative artists, including opera singer Maria Callas, and painter Pablo Picasso representing nineteen nations performed on “Our World”, it is the segment featuring The Beatles that became the most popular and memorable to date. The Beatles wrote “All You Need Is Love”, a message of hope and love, at the height of the Vietnam war. At 8:54 GMT, the world had their eyes on The Beatles and their friends on studio that included The Rolling Stones (Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards), Eric Clapton, Marianne Faithfull, Keith Moon, Pete Townshend and Graham Nash among others, as they debut their song “All You Need Is Love”. The song of course, went on to become an anthem for love and one of the most symbolic songs of the 1967 Summer Of Love.
