Noriyuki “Pat” Morita was born on June 28, 1932, in Isleton, California. His early life was marked by significant challenges, including a battle with spinal tuberculosis, which kept him in a body cast for several years. After recovering, he joined his family in an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II. These early experiences shaped Morita’s perspective, contributing to his unique approach to life and acting.
Morita’s career began in the world of stand-up comedy in the 1960s. Known for his quick wit and engaging stage presence, he transitioned to television and film, often typecast in small, stereotypical roles due to his ethnicity. His breakthrough came in the 1970s with recurring roles on popular TV shows such as “Sanford and Son” and “Happy Days,” where he played the amiable Arnold Takahashi, the owner of Arnold’s Drive-In.

Pat Morita passed away on November 24, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 73. He died of kidney failure, leaving behind a rich legacy in film and television.
