The Australian singer John Farnham turns 75
With “You’re The Voice”, released in 1986, John Farnham peaked at No. 1 on the Australian singles charts and had a worldwide hit, which boxed him later on the undesirable “one hit wonders” category. He was born John Peter Farnham on July 1, 1949 in Dagenham, Essex, England and his family emigrated to Australia in 1959 when John was 10. After playing in several Australian Rock and Pop bands, in 1967 he achieves success in Australia and becomes a Teen Pop idol for young Aussies. Popular between the kids, he had a successful career in Australia during the whole 1970’s decade, not only in music but also as an actor. But it wasn’t up until 1986 with “You’re the Voice” that he became famous outside Australia. Though his fame overseas didn’t extended for a long period, Farnham continued to enjoy a big popularity in Australia. Almost 40 years after “You’re The Voice”, he continues to release new music and his two latest albums, released in 2015 and 2016, were made in collaboration with another famous aussie, Olivia Newton-John. John Farnham turns 75 today.
