Janet Leigh, born Jeanette Helen Morrison on July 6, 1927, in Merced, California, was the only child of Helen Lita and Frederick Robert Morrison. Raised in Stockton, California, Leigh’s early life was marked by a strong academic inclination and a love for performing arts. She was discovered by actress Norma Shearer, who saw her photograph at the ski resort where Leigh’s parents worked.
Leigh’s film career began in the late 1940s after signing a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). She made her film debut in “The Romance of Rosy Ridge” (1947), opposite Van Johnson. Her early career was marked by a series of roles that showcased her versatility and charm. She starred in films such as “Little Women” (1949), “Angels in the Outfield” (1951), “Scaramouche” (1952) and “Touch of Evil” (1958), establishing herself as a leading lady in Hollywood.

Her third marriage to Tony Curtis in 1951 brought significant media attention. They had two daughters, actresses Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis, before divorcing in 1962. Leigh’s fourth marriage was to Robert Brandt, a stockbroker, in 1962, and they remained together until her death.
Janet Leigh passed away on October 3, 2004, at her home in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 77. She died from vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels. Her passing was widely mourned in Hollywood and by her many fans around the world.
