Richard Stephen Sambora, widely known as Richie Sambora, was born on July 11, 1959, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, USA. Raised in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, Sambora was influenced by the rock and blues music of the 1960s and 1970s. He started playing the guitar at a young age and was also proficient in playing other instruments, including the piano and saxophone.
Sambora’s early career saw him playing with several local bands. His big break came in 1983 when he auditioned for and joined Bon Jovi, a band led by Jon Bon Jovi. The chemistry between Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi was immediate, and Sambora’s guitar skills and songwriting abilities were instrumental in shaping the band’s sound.
Bon Jovi’s debut album was released in 1984, but it was their third album, “Slippery When Wet” (1986), that catapulted them to global stardom. The album featured hits like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” and “Wanted Dead or Alive,” many of which Sambora co-wrote. After leaving Bon Jovi, Sambora formed a musical partnership with Australian guitarist Orianthi, known as RSO, and released the album “Radio Free America” in 2018. The collaboration showcased a blend of rock, blues, and pop, highlighting Sambora’s continued evolution as an artist.
Sambora has also been involved in various charitable activities and continues to perform live, both solo and in collaboration with other artists.
Richie Sambora’s personal life has seen its share of ups and downs. He was married to actress Heather Locklear from 1994 to 2007, and they have a daughter, Ava Elizabeth Sambora, born in 1997. Sambora’s relationship with his daughter is close, and he often speaks about her with great pride.
