Actor and model Josh Holloway turns 55 today
Josh Lee Holloway was born on July 20, 1969, in San Jose, California. When he was young, his family moved to Free Home, Georgia, where he spent most of his childhood. Growing up in a rural environment, Holloway developed a love for the outdoors and a down-to-earth personality that would later endear him to fans worldwide. He attended Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, and briefly studied at the University of Georgia before leaving to pursue a career in modeling and acting.
Holloway’s career began in the modeling industry, where his striking looks and charisma earned him work with prestigious brands like Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, and Donna Karan. His success in modeling took him to various cities around the world, including Paris and Milan, but he always had his sights set on acting.
His transition to acting began with small roles in television. One of his first acting experiences came in 1993 through Aerosmith’s music video “Cryin'” where he plays a thief who tries to steal Alicia Silverstone’s purse from a diner, only to be caught and beaten up by her. Holloway made guest appearances on series such as “Angel” and “Walker, Texas Ranger” in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although these roles were relatively minor, they provided him with valuable experience and exposure in the industry.
Holloway’s big break came in 2004 when he was cast as James “Sawyer” Ford in the critically acclaimed television series “Lost.” The show, which became a cultural phenomenon, ran for six seasons until 2010. Holloway’s portrayal of the complex, rugged anti-hero Sawyer earned him widespread recognition and several awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Following “Lost,” Holloway continued to build his career with roles in both film and television. He appeared in movies such as “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” (2011) alongside Tom Cruise and “Sabotage” (2014) with Arnold Schwarzenegger. On television, he starred in the CBS cyber-thriller series “Intelligence” (2014) and later took on the role of Will Bowman in the USA Network’s science fiction drama “Colony” (2016-2018).
In recent years, Holloway has continued to work in television, most notably starring in the Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” and the action-thriller series “Dystopia.” His performances have continued to receive praise for their depth and versatility, demonstrating his ability to adapt to various genres and roles.
Josh Holloway married his longtime girlfriend, Yessica Kumala, in 2004. The couple has two children: a daughter named Java Kumala and a son named Hunter Lee. Holloway values his privacy and often keeps his personal life out of the public eye, focusing on spending quality time with his family. In 2005, People magazine named Holloway one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World.” and in March 2007, Holloway was selected as the new face for Davidoff’s “Cool Water” fragrance worldwide.
Beyond his professional career, Holloway enjoys outdoor activities such as surfing, snowboarding, and horseback riding. His love for adventure and the outdoors often reflects in the roles he chooses, bringing a touch of authenticity to his characters.
