Pearl Jam co-founder and guitarist Stone Gossard turns 58
Stone Gossard co-founded Pearl Jam in 1990 together with Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Eddie Vedder. Born on July 20, 1966, the rhythm and additional lead guitarist Gossard is one of the architects of the Seattle Grunge sound that took over the airwaves during the early 90’s. He began his career in the 1980’s as part of the Proto-Grunge bands Green River and Mother Love Bone. Shortly before the release of Mother Love Bone’s debut, the singer Andy Wood died from a drug overdose, which led Gossard together with other members of the band Jeff Ament and Mike McCready, to form Pearl Jam, recruiting singer Eddie Vedder. After releasing their debut album “Ten” in 1991, Pearl Jam became one of the most popular bands of the Grunge movement and today, 31 years and several albums later, their music remains fresh, updated and with new generations of fans emerging everyday. Gossard also was a member of supergroup Temple Of the Dog, together with other members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Gossard released his first solo album, “Bayleaf” in 2001. His second solo album “Moonlander” followed in 2013. Pearl Jam released their latest studio album “Dark Matter ” in 2024. Stone Gossard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Pearl Jam on April 7, 2017
