Cradle Of Filth’s vocalist and founder Dani Filth turns 51

One of the most popular vocalists labeled under the Black Metal style, Dani Filth was born Daniel Lloyd Davey in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England on July 25, 1973. He formed Cradle of Filth in 1991, and the band quickly became one of the most popular Black Metal bands in Europe. It was during this early period that Dani chose his career in music over an internship at a newspaper, however the journalism passion remained with him as he had his “Dani’s Inferno” column running for two years in Metal Hammer magazine during the late 1990’s. Cradle Of Filth’s first album “The Principle of Evil Made Flesh” was released in 1994, and for many original fans of the band remains their best and most distinctive album. But the band’s most popular album, and the one that earned them a worldwide popularity was the 1996 “Dusk and Her Embrace”. The album was criticized by many Cradle of Filth’s original fans and followers, seen as a “sell out” of the band. Their sound, shifted from black metal to a cleaner and more “produced” amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic metal, and while that made their songs more popular and accessible in songs such as “Malice Through the Looking Glass”, it also distanced them from their original audience. Over the years Dani Filth has been the only constant member in Cradle of Filth, but he also has engaged in other activities including acting and appearing on reality shows, such as the MTV’s Viva La Bam as the friend of Bam Margera, the star of the show. As a performer, Dani Filth named Judas Priest, Venom, Emperor, Destruction, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Sabbat, Misfits, Paradise Lost and Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” among his major influences. Cradle Of Filth released their latest album “Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay” in September 2017 and “Existence Is Futile” in 2021.
