One of the most influential Garage Rock bands of all time, The Troggs first big hit “Wild Thing” remains their signature song, however they released several influential Garage Rock songs composed with Pop sensitivity that remain today among the 1960’s best music. Such is the case of “A Girl Like You”, released as a single in their native U.K in July 1966, backed with “I Want You”. The song, written by Reg Presley and produced by Larry Page, has been used extensively in movies, advertisement and TV shows throughout the years as well as being covered by many other artists. Curiously, despite the huge international success of their previous single “Wild Thing”, “With A Girl Like You” would be their only No.1 in the UK, reaching that same position on August 4, 1966. In the U.S, where “Wild Thing” had been a No.1, “With A Girl Like You” only peaked to No.29. The song was released in the American version of their debut LP “From Nowhere” but cut out of the British/European version, which featured a totally different line up from the American one.
