Written and produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone, “This Used to Be My Playground” was composed to be used as the theme song for the 1992 movie “A League of Their Own”, starring Madonna. At the time, Madonna and Pettibone were also working on her album “Erotica”, which gave them little time to come up with a song for the movie, but reportedly in two days they presented the song. It was released as a standalone single on June 16, 1992, backed with a longer version of the same song, but due to contractual obligations it ends up not being included in the movie’s soundtrack album. “This Used to Be My Playground”, a ballad, gave Madonna her 10th No.1 at the Hot 100 in the U.S when it peaked to the top position on August 8, 1992. It also earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Original Song and was a worldwide hit and No.1 in several countries. In 1995, the song was included in the Madonna ballads compilation album “Something to Remember”.
