One of the 1980’s TV heartthrobs and with a career spanning several decades, Stamos has become a beloved figure in the entertainment industry. The “General Hospital” actor has successfully revived his popularity over the last two decades by appearing in new series and movies and also as an outspoken supporter for the LGBT community

1980’s TV heartthrob John Stamos turns 61

The multi-talented actor, musician, and producer John Stamos, who became a household name through his work on television and one of the 1980’s TV heartthrobs, was born on August 19, 1963, in Cypress, California.
From Greek descendance, Stamos’ early interest in acting was evident from a young age, and he began his career with a role on the soap opera General Hospital in 1982, where he played Blackie Parrish. His portrayal of the troubled teenager earned him widespread recognition and a Daytime Emmy Award nomination, marking the beginning of a successful acting career.
In 1987, Stamos landed the role that would define his career: Uncle Jesse Katsopolis on the hit sitcom Full House. The show, which aired until 1995, became a cultural phenomenon, and Stamos’ character, known for his charm, love of music, and catchphrase “Have mercy,” became one of the show’s most popular figures. His musical talents were also showcased on Full House, where his character often performed with his band, adding a unique element to the show.
After Full House ended, Stamos continued to work in television, taking on roles in various TV movies and series. He starred in the short-lived but critically acclaimed series Thieves (2001) and later joined the cast of the medical drama ER in 2005, playing Dr. Tony Gates. Stamos’ versatility as an actor allowed him to transition smoothly between different genres, from comedy to drama.
In addition to his acting career, Stamos has pursued his passion for music. He has played drums and guitar with the Beach Boys, one of his favorite bands, and has performed with them on numerous occasions over the years, also appearing in their 1988 music video “Kokomo.” His musical involvement has added another layer to his multifaceted career.
Stamos returned to the role of Uncle Jesse in the Full House sequel series Fuller House, which aired on Netflix from 2016 to 2020. His involvement in the revival showed the lasting impact of the original show and his beloved character. His popularity was also revived with several appearances on a series of commercials for Dannon’s Greek yogurt brand Oikos and he also played a lead role in the now cancelled series. “Scream Queens” as the attractive Dr. Brock Holt.
John Stamos married model and actress Rebecca Romijn in 1998, but the couple divorced in 2005. In 2018, Stamos married actress Caitlin McHugh, and they welcomed their son, Billy, later that year. Stamos often shares glimpses of his family life on social media, showing a deep love for his wife and son.
Aside of his acting career, John Stamos also is an activist and philanthropist, who since 2005, he has been the national spokesperson for Project Cuddle. He’s also a supporter of LGBT rights and Gay marriage, he stated that his role as a gay man in the 2006 TV movie “Wedding Wars” reflected his support for same-sex marriages.
