One of the most iconic supermodels of all time, known for her striking beauty, poise, and professionalism, Claudia Schiffer was born on August 25, 1970, in Rheinberg, a small town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Schiffer grew up in a close-knit family; her father was a lawyer, and her mother was a homemaker. Initially, she aspired to become a lawyer like her father, but her life took a dramatic turn when she was discovered by a modeling agent in a nightclub in Düsseldorf at the age of 17. Shortly thereafter, Schiffer moved to Paris, where her career quickly skyrocketed.
Her big break came in 1989 when she became the face of Guess jeans. The campaign’s success brought her international recognition, and she soon became a household name. Schiffer’s resemblance to Brigitte Bardot, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, captivated the fashion industry and the public alike. She became a muse for many designers, particularly Karl Lagerfeld, who made her the face of Chanel.
Throughout the 1990s, Schiffer was at the forefront of the “supermodel era,” alongside other legendary models like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington. She appeared on over 1,000 magazine covers, including multiple covers of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, making her one of the most photographed women in the world. Claudia appeared on more than one thousand magazine covers and holds the record for the model with the most magazine covers, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1993 she met magician David Copperfield when he brought her on stage to participate in a mind reading act and in his flying illusion, and they became engaged in January 1994. In 2002, she married British film director and producer Matthew Vaughn. The couple has three children together: a son, Caspar, and two daughters, Clementine and Cosima. The family resides in both London and their country estate in Suffolk.
In addition to her work in fashion, Schiffer ventured into acting and appeared in films such as Richie Rich (1994) and Zoolander (2001). However, she never fully pursued a career in Hollywood, choosing to remain focused on modeling and her various business endeavors.
As the fashion industry evolved, Schiffer transitioned from full-time modeling to other pursuits. She launched her own cashmere collection and became involved in various charitable causes. Schiffer has also been a global ambassador for UNICEF, using her platform to raise awareness for children’s rights and education.
