Former child actor Macaulay Culkin turns 44
During the 1990’s Macaulay Culkin became the most famous and best paid child actor in the world. Born on August 26, 1980, in New York City, New York, Culkin played his breakthrough role in the 1991 blockbuster “Home Alone” at age 11. The success of the movie worldwide, led it to an equally successful sequel in 1992, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” where he reprises the role of Kevin McCallister. During the first half of the 1990’s, Culkin was cast in a series of successful movies as a child actor, mostly family comedies but also some thrillers including “My Girl” (1991), “The Good Son” (1993), “The Nutcracker” (1993), “Getting Even with Dad” (1994), “The Pagemaster” (1994) and “Richie Rich” (1994). Around that period the press started to leak information on a feud between the then teenager Culkin and his parents, due to his earnings, a feud that lasts to this day. Culkin friended Michael Jackson when he appeared in the 1991 iconic Jackson’s music video “Black or White”, becoming also later in his life the godfather of Jackson’s children Paris Jackson, Prince and Michael Jr. and in 2005 at Jackson’s trial for sexual child abuse, Culkin testified that he had slept in bed with Jackson but that he was never molested, dismissing the allegations as “absolutely ridiculous” and defending his friend’s honor until the very end.
By the mid 1990’s Culkin retired temporarily from acting, he appears though in the 1998 Sonic Youth’s music video “Sunday”. In 2003 he makes a surprising comeback, and lets the world knows he’s not a child anymore, when he stars in “Party Monster”, the biopic of the controversial 1980’s and 1990’s New York’s party promoter Michael Alig from the Club Kids, a drug addict, and later, a murderer, alongside Seth Green. Macaulay Culkin himself has had problems with the law over the years due to his drug habits, including a three one-year suspended prison sentence. In 2013, he co-founded the New York-based, pizza-themed comedy rock band The Pizza Underground, where he was the lead vocalist. The band has now split, and Culkin currently is the publisher and CEO of a satirical pop culture website and podcast called Bunny Ears. Today he turns 44 and he’s light years away from the innocent kid that played Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone”.
