Mr. Dynamite performs “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”
On this day September the 1st of 1965 James Brown performs on the popular music TV show “Shindig!”, he performs his first Top 10 hit “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”, completing the singing with his now famous dance moves. Brown was one of the most important contributors to bring Funk into the mainstream, a musical genre that would become an influential force for the next decade. Known as the Godfather of Soul, he developed the Funk genre which distinguished him from other Soul music singers at the time. A quick worldwide sensation, in the U.S Brown also had a strong social influence by breaking down racial barriers in a country then dominated by racial tensions. On the following year, 1966, he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, on one of the most iconic TV and music moments of the 60’s, proving that he could bond together people everywhere and from everywhere through his singing and dancing.
