Top 10 Queen Music Videos
Along with their music and their majestic live concerts, Queen put a lot of effort in making music videos to keep up with the visual imagery of their songs. Earlier in their career, most video/film promos were mostly live or soundstage performances. With the exception of “Bohemian Rhapsody” it wasn’t really up until the turn into the 80’s that their video productions got visually richer and more developed. Considered to be one of the video-clip pioneers along with names such as David Bowie or Michael Jackson, their 1975 clip for “Bohemian Rhapsody” introduces in Rock the concept of FX influencing that way the music video production for the next years and eventually leading to the 1980’s video revolution. Queen produced dozens of music videos during their career, and became more daring as the years went by, in 1984 MTV banned the “I Want to Break Free” video where they play with the idea of dressing in drag, it cost them their popularity in the conservative United States of America of that era. Consecutively, all the other videos for the album “The Works” didn’t got significant rotation or radio airplay in U.S. However, around the world their popularity remained intact, and the video had significant visual impact on Queen’s image during the 80’s, remaining their most iconic and memorable video and a strong pop culture reference of the 80’s and music videos. Their last video released before Freddie Mercury’s death was “The Show Must Go On,” due to the fact of Freddie being too ill to shoot a new video, the band used footage of their last ten years of video and live history, which resulted in a stunning flashback of their career. We now look back at 10 of their most memorable videos.
