A-ha guitarist and founder Paul Waaktaar turns 63
Paul Waaktaar, remains mostly known as the founder and lead guitarist for the Norwegian 1980’s popular band A-ha. He was born on September 6, 1961, in Oslo, Norway. He formed A-ha with keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and singer Morten Harket, and became also the band’s main songwriter. Wakktaar wrote or co-wrote most of the band’s biggest hits, including “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.,” “Hunting High and Low,” “Take on Me” and the James Bond theme “The Living Daylights”. During the 1980’s, A-ha reached the pinnacle of their popularity with their catchy Synth Pop hits, charting worldwide, including their signature song, the iconic “Take on Me.” Aside of A-ha, Waaktar also has a solo career and has worked in several side projects. Other artistic activities include painting. In 2012 three members of a-ha, Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar, were appointed Knights of the 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for their contribution to Norwegian music Paul is married to American filmmaker and musician Lauren Waaktaar-Savoy and they have one child together. Today he turns 63.
