Jimi Hendrix makes his final live appearance in September 1970
Jimi Hendrix played his last concert on the Isle of Fehmarn Festival in Germany, September 6th, 1970, 12 days before his untimely death. With the recently reformed The Jimi Hendrix Experience, with Billy Cox on bass guitar, Hendrix was scheduled to play the 5th, but heavy rain and gale-force winds interference delayed their appearance to the next day. Hendrix could have gone home on the 5th, but he decided to play a day later at noon. Jimi told a reporter at the festival site on the first day: “I’ll play tomorrow. Tomorrow at noon. I don’t have to, but I want to. The fans are out there in the dirt, I have to play for them. They came because of me” The band played a classic setlist that included “Spanish Castle Magic”, “All Along the Watchtower”, “Hey Joe” among others, they closed the show with “Purple Haze” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”. After that, Jimi returned to London, England where on the 18th of September passed away unexpectedly.
