Revisiting the Milos Forman 1984 masterpiece “Amadeus”
The much acclaimed and awarded Milos Forman 1984 masterpiece “Amadeus”, remains an untouchable work of art in movie history. It tells the story of the fictional relation between the music genius Mozart and his secret rival, enemy and biggest fan, Salieri, opens up several interpretations, several shifts on character sympathy. The movie gives us a look at the 18th Century music genius Mozart as a talented rebel, almost in a Punk Rock way. Misbehaving every time, he can, getting wasted and living like there’s no tomorrow, he sparks the fury, and attention, of the disciplined Salieri, who becomes obsessed in finding out why God gave that unworthy person such a big talent. Acting as a friend, Salieri sabotages Mozart every opportunity he can, however, at the same time, by being Mozart’s biggest fan, eventually, the emotional conflict leads him to mental decline. Forget the time and place, the story, remains contemporary, the characters, still exist, because the traits reflected on “Amadeus” characters, are nothing but eternally human. Throughout the movie, you will feel different emotions, alternate opinions about some characters. It will also perhaps introduce you to wonderful music, wonderful and superb acting.
