The Cardigans singer Nina Persson turns 50
She is still remembered by many as the seductive lead singer of Swedish band The Cardigans, with whom she scored several hits during the 1990’s. Nina Persson was born on September 1974 in Örebro, Närke, Sweden and joined The Cardigans in 1992 as their lead singer. After two albums, the Alternative/Pop band scored an unexpected worldwide smash hit with their single “Lovefool,” included on their third album “First Band on the Moon,” in 1996.Much of its success came from being included in the soundtrack to the 1996 film “Romeo + Juliet”. With “Lovefool”, the Swedish band became famous worldwide, and during the rest of the decade scored other hit songs including “Erase/Rewind” and “My Favourite Game,” both from the 1998 album “Gran Turismo”. Persson, who also serves as the band’s lyricist, released her first (and only) solo album “Animal Heart” om 2014. After a hiatus The Cardigans reformed, and despite not having released any new album since 2005, they’ve been playing again live since 2013. Nina Persson turns 50 today.
