The Doors play their first European tour concert at the Roundhouse in London
After a successful year touring the U.S and Canada having put out two of the best albums of 1967 together with the No. 1 single “Light My Fire”, The Doors start their European tour in 1968 together with the Jefferson Airplane. With “Hello, I Love You” a single from their third album “Waiting for the Sun” climbing the charts in Europe. Their first stop is the U.K where they play two nights at the legendary Roundhouse in London. Granada TV follows the band with cameras filming their arrival at the airport, press conferences, interviews and the Roundhouse shows to be broadcast as a documentary on the band “The Doors Are Open”. The two shows are sold out and are attended by members of The Rolling Stones and Traffic. After the tour Jim Morrison goes back to London where he stays a few weeks with his girlfriend Pamela and poet friend Michael McClure. Despite having conquered the European audiences and being by then a worldwide success, this would be the only time they toured Europe in the short Doors career with Jim Morrison, due to the legal problems the band had to face the following year of 1969 when Jim Morrison allegedly exposed himself at a concert in Miami. They returned to the U.K in 1970 for one of their last live appearances at The Isle of Wight Festival, where they headlined together with The Who and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, that same year Jim Morrison told in an interview the band was making plans to tour Europe again, rumor has it that would be in the fall of 1971 with Black Sabbath as the support band, that of course never happened as Morrison died in Paris in July 1971 at 27.
