With “You Can´t Hurry Love” The Supremes hit number one again in 1966
On September 10th, 1966, the Motown vocal trio lead by Diana Ross, The Supremes, hit number one on Hot 100 Billboard charts. Written and produced by Motown’s main production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland, the successful single became one of their signature songs along with “Baby Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” The song also marked a shift on The Supremes musical direction as they evolved to singing about more mature subjects appealing that way to a wider audience. One of the 60’s biggest acts, The Supremes charted several times during the decade, their songs have been covered extensively in a variety of music styles such as the Psychedelic version of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” by Vanilla Fudge in 1967. The Supremes performed the song on The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday, September 25, 1966.
