Top 10 Stephen King books adaptations
Stephen King was born Stephen Edwin King in Portland, Maine on September 21st, 1947, and has been a one-man horror literary phenomenon for decades now, having launched his career in 1974 with the publication of his novel “Carrie”. King had thrown an early draft of the novel into the trash after becoming discouraged with his progress writing about a teenage girl with psychic powers. His wife retrieved the manuscript and encouraged him to finish it. His advance for “Carrie” was $2,500; King’s paperback rights later earned $400,000. King was, arguably, the force behind the 1980’s horror fiction boom. His success enabled many other talented writers to get the attention of publishing houses, critics, and readers. In some cases, King himself championed the work of his peers, providing book blurbs and other forms of endorsement and promotion, and even brought his considerable influence to bear on behalf of movies that caught his attention. King, of course, has had many of his own books adapted for the screen, too, and even appeared in some of them. As he has often said himself, King was born to tell stories, and his seemingly effortless ability to weave compelling tales about memorable and fully fleshed-out characters still grips millions of readers around the world. Despite his longstanding association with horror, King has never let it limit his work. He’s written mysteries, crime stories, works of literary fiction, and a very well-received book on the craft of writing. He’s also dabbled in the radio business and was a very early adopter of eBook technology. Thanks for all the nightmares, Mr. King, and I hope that you’ll be with us for many, many years to come!
