AC/DC Makes Their Grand Comeback in 1990 with “The Razor’s Edge”
AC/DC’s 11th album “The Razor’s Edge” it’s the biggest comeback the band made in their career. After a mild 1980’s-decade, AC/DC released the album on September 24th, 1990, with slightly different song structures from their previous albums but keeping their famous signature sound. The album settled the band’s career for the 90’s and re-affirmed them as a vital force in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, due to the inclusion of serious hit songs such as “Thunderstruck,” “Are You Ready” and “Moneytalks.” Produced by Bruce Fairbairn, one of the most in demand Hard Rock producers at the time since he did 1986 Bon Jovi’s “Slippery When Wet,” some of the songs in the album broke into the Hot 100 charts, making it one of the most successful comebacks in Rock history. The album was the only one recorded with drummer Chris Slade, who lend a powerful energetic beat to the songs, perhaps one of the best drumming periods in AC/DC’s career. As far as chart success there was no surprises, “Thunderstruck” and “Are You Ready” scored #5 and #16 respectively on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart, and “Moneytalks,” peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is one of AC/DC’s best albums in their career and can easily be at the same level as “Highway to Hell” or “Back in Black.”
