Bruce Dickinson joins Iron Maiden in 1981
Bruce Dickinson it’s a well-known name among Heavy Metal fans and Rock music fans in general as the lead singer for Iron Maiden, but he was not the band’s original singer. Iron Maiden’s original line up for their two first albums “Iron Maiden” and “Killers” included vocalist Paul Di’Anno, after he was fired from the band, Dickinson auditioned for the place, and he got it on September 26th, 1981. Prior to that Dickinson was the singer in the band Samson, which never achieved any real success. The distinctive vocals and stage presence of Bruce Dickinson earned him a name in Rock and made Iron Maiden fans forget about the original band’s singer. In 1982 the third Iron Maiden album and the first with Dickinson on vocals is released, “The Number of the Beast” which becomes one of their best-selling albums and establishing the band as Heavy Metal music leaders. Dickinson left Iron Maiden in 1993 to pursue a solo career, Blaze Bayley had the difficult task to fill in Bruce’s shoes in the band, but in 1999 Dickinson returned to Iron Maiden where he still stands as their lead singer and one of the band’s creative forces.
