When in 1995 Australian artists Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue release their unexpected duet “Where the Wild Roses Grow” taken from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album “Murder Ballads,” nobody expected the wonderful results coming from it. The song proved to be a hit for both; despite not really distancing from Nick Cave’s usual music style, it was a world away of a lot of Kylie Minogue’s (who was trying since 1990 to affirm herself as an adult and mature artist.) bubblegum Pop songs. The dark lyrics and somber tone of the song contrast with Kylie’s upbeat and positive tunes, and in the end, it worked just fantastic. Aside of Minogue, Cave also duets with P.J Harvey and Shane MacGowan from The Pogues in the album, “Where the Wild Roses Grow” is actually not the only song where Minogue participates, she also does “Death Is Not the End” together with Cave, Shane and P.J Harvey. The single was released on October 2nd, 1995, and received a positive reception from music critics becoming the band’s most successful single worldwide reaching No. 3 in Norway, the top five in Australia, and the top twenty in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and New Zealand among many other countries, however, in the U.S it didn’t really chart.
