Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee Turns 62 today

Tommy Lee has been one of the most successful drummers in Rock for over 40 years now, he was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece and moved to the U.S with his family when he was 1 year old. During his early years, Tommy studied and practiced Ballet and thought about following the dance path, but Rock music spoke louder. His first successful band Suite 19 played the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles during the late-1970s. Around this time, he met future bandmate, Nikki Sixx. Casually, Sixx was forming a theatrical heavy metal band and was impressed by Lee’s drumming, it was during this time, that he changed his name to Tommy Lee. Shortly afterwards, guitarist Mick Mars joined the band. Tommy recommended a singer he had met during high school, Vince Neil, who soon joined the group, and Mötley Crüe was formed. Mötley Crüe quickly built a strong fanbase and they released their debut album “Too Fast for Love “in 1981, on their own independent label. Elektra Records decided to sign the band shortly, reissuing their debut in 1982. The band then began a string of hit album releases throughout the decade—1983 “Shout at the Devil,” 1985 “Theatre of Pain,” 1987′ “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and 1989 “Dr. Feelgood”—establishing the quartet as one of the biggest hard rock/metal bands of the 1980’s. Among the band’s most notable hit songs are “Shout at the Devil,” “Dr. Feelgood,” Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Smokin’ in the Boys Room.” Despite their enormous success during the 1980’s the band feel apart during the 1990’s. Tommy started and played several bands during this period, including his Nu Metal band Methods of Mayhem. His first marriage was with TV Star Heather Locklear in 1986, nine years later in 1995 he married another blondshell, Baywatch star Pamela Anderson. In the early 2000’s. after their divorce, a stolen private sex tape of the couple was released on the internet, but not affecting the couple’s reputation or career. Tommy Lee is also an activist for PETA, the animal rights organization. In 2014 he joined the rest of his Mötley Crüe bandmates in a farewell tour. As part of the tour each member signed a legal document preventing them from ever touring under the Mötley Crüe moniker again, however the band went  back on the road after the Netflix biopic “The Dirt” re-captured some of the band’s success.
