Sigourney Weaver has played every type of role throughout her extensive career, from Sci-Fi, to Horror, to Thriller, to Comedy and Drama, she’s one of the most versatile and prolific actresses in Hollywood and one of the most famous worldwide. The actress was born in Manhattan, New York City on October 8, 1949, and her big screen debut was in the 1977 Woody Allen’s comedy “Annie Hall,” where she played a non-speaking role. In 1979, she got the lead role that would turn her into a movie star, and that remains her signature character, when she played Lieutenant Ripley in Ridley Scott’s blockbuster “Alien.” The movie was so successful worldwide that Weaver reprises her iconic role in three of the movie sequels: “Aliens,” “Alien 3” and “Alien Resurrection.” During the 1980’s she played several other famous roles, including Dana Barrett in the 1984 blockbuster “Ghostbusters” (which she reprises in the 1989 sequel), as Katharine Parker in “Working Girl” and as real life character Dian Fossey in “Gorillas in the Mist,” both from 1988, earning her Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress and also two Academy Award nominations in 1988, for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Working Girl” and Best Actress for “Gorillas in the Mist” By the 1990’s, Weaver’s career as an actress was solid and steady, which remains to this day, prolifically working on new movies, and she reprised once again her role as Dana Barrett in “Ghostbusters 2020” which was due for release in July 2020.
